MEDIA RELEASE - NEW AUSSIE RULES PODCAST KICKS OFF
What do Hawthorn legend Dermot Brereton, Fox Footy’s Tiffany Cherry, 3AW’s Clinton Grybas and Neighbours star Blair McDonough have in common?
They are all guests on the new AFL Show recently launched on The Podcast Network.
AFL Show host Pete Lazer joined The Podcast Network on April 1 bringing with him years of experience playing competitive AFL football, a passion for sport and a nine-year career in presenting, modelling and acting.
AFL fans in Australia and around the world are now able to download Aussie Rules Show audio files from www.thepodcastnetwork.com/afl and listen to Pete talk to some of the country’s high profile players, administrators, sports journalists and personalities.
New shows are released each Tuesday, with next week’s special guest to be Melbourne Football Club vice-president Beverly O’Connor.
Booming growth in demand for innovative audio programming has resulted in startling expansion for Australian new media company The Podcast Network.
Launched mid-February to capitalise on a global explosion of portable audio players such as the iPod, the months of March and April saw a show being downloaded every 44 seconds from the network. Since the launch they have had in excess of 165,000 individual shows downloaded from their website, www.thepodcastnetwork.com, by more than 85,000 unique listeners with a new listener being added every 1.7 minutes.
From its sudden emergence in mid 2004, podcasting has spawned more than 5000 new shows, ranging from technology-focused product reviews to sports commentary and ‘chit-chat’ shows.
The Podcast Network has established its own unique stable of titles. An eclectic collection of channels is being developed ranging from business, technology and science to lifestyle, which are all managed and aggregated under the one roof.
Current programs on The Podcast Network include:
• G’Day World
• The BizBlog Show
• The Gadget Show
• The Media Centre Show
• The Mobiles Show
• The Tablet PC Show
• The techAddiction Show
• The Tech Conference Show
• The Microsoft Developer Show
• The Jazz Show
• The Movie Show
• The Rock Show
• The AFL Show
• Claybourne
• The Animal World Show
• The Health Show
Co-founder of The Podcast Network Cameron Reilly said the explosion in growth over such a short period was further evidence that podcasting is emerging as a legitimate threat to terrestrial radio.
“We are now witnessing the rise of Generation C. These are people who have the ability to create and distribute their own content and the desire to listen to their peers,” he said.
Pete said podcasting was new technology that was gaining rapid popularity.
“I don’t know anything about technology but I know a lot about footy,” said Pete.
“The great thing about doing the show as a podcast is that footy lovers can listen to lengthy conversations about footy whenever and wherever they want.”

Hey Molly
Yeah we send it out to selected media as well. This one went to a bunch of sports journos at the Herald Sun and The Age. Also published it on Open Press which gets picked up by Google News.
